Rude Drugs” are natural substances and cultural expressions — most often plant-based medicines like cannabis and grassroots art forms like HIP HOP — that are raw, unrefined, and used outside the control of medical or institutional authority. They are ‘rude’ because they resist respectability and reject the polish of mainstream acceptance, yet they remain powerful tools for healing, expression, and transformation. Rude Drugs are cultivated, concocted, and consumed by the people, drawing from cultural traditions, lived experience, and community knowledge. They embody resistance, reclamation, and remedy: healing from below, in forms society often misunderstands, demonizes, or dismisses.
